Beethoven's works are considered one of classical music's greatest legacies.
To celebrate our third season at St John's we begin our three concert cycle with the
trio in B flat major Op. 11, from 1798, the Trio in C minor, Op. 1 No. 3 from 1795 and
the Trio in E flat major Op. 70 No. 2. Complete cycles of his works are often presented
in the world's major concert halls or in recordings, as a mark of achievement by the performers. They are also very popular with audiences, who relish the opportunity
to experience an important contribution to musical history and we recommend
buying tickets at all three concerts.

Music Under Stalin
Our 'Music under Stalin' concert features two great piano trios. One not so well known, Georgy Sviridov's Piano Trio in A minor, Op.6, having its first London performance. It was not for nothing that this incredible work won the 1946 Stalin prize. And the other, the famous, Dmitri Shostakovich Piano Trio in E Minor, Op. 67 of 1944

Our NEW online shop is now open and features our latest release:

London Piano Trio LIVE
Recorded live on the 5th of April, 2014, at the amazing
St John's Smith Square. In our opinion the best
acoustic in London. The recording features two giants

of the Czech school of composition. Smetana's only

piano trio, widely regarded in his homeland as the

father of Czech music. Thisis coupled with with

the last and most famous of Dvorak's piano trios, the Dumky.

November Release 2012:
Mendelsshon and Cotter Nixon Piano Trios

The Mendelssohn Piano Trio No. 1 has remained one of the best loved and most often performed and recorded trios in the repertoire. The London Piano Trio bring their artistry and musicality to this masterpiece. This is a performance of passion and deeply felt love for the music coupled with technical brilliance tempered with a deep understanding of Mendelssohn's music. This premier recording of Henry Cotter Nixon's Piano Trio No. 1 from 1879 is another example of the myth that no British music of worth was composed between Handel and Elgar. Although influenced by the Germanic musical culture of Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn the melody opening the andante is an example of the late Victorian Anglican hymn. This recording follows the London Piano Trio's recording of Donald Tovey's Piano Trio Opus 27 on the Guild Music label GMCD 7352 strengthening their commitment to British music.

In a welcome return to Cranleigh two years after their previous recital, complete with a fresh new ’cellist, the London Piano Trio delivered a commendably secure as well as a beautifully lyrical account of three tremendous landmarks of the chamber music repertoire.

12/01/2009 - Appointment of new cellist

It is with great delight that Olga and Robert can announce the appointment of our new cellist. David Jones joined the trio today and we look forward to many fruitful years of great music making together. David's playing brings to the group many new dimensions.

We would like to thank Bozidar Vulotic for all the hard work over the past ten years and wish him well in his future ventures.

Donald Francis Tovey (1875–1940) has long been known as one of the finest writers on music in English – but he saw himself primarily as a composer. His Symphony, Op. 32, and Cello Concerto, Op. 40, already released in this Toccata Classics survey of Tovey’s music, alerted modern listeners to a major voice in British orchestral music. These two trios, lyrical and intense, from the start of Tovey’s career, present him in his first love: chamber music
